Set-Up and Range
The Latest Information on Capacitive Nanometrology Position Sensors is Available Here
In a typical measurement the optimum range is ± 50% of the nominal measurement distance, producing ± 5 V output voltage at the sensor electronics. The probe/target capacitance at the nominal measurement distance corresponds to the 10 pF reference capacitor in the electronics. Exceeding the measuring range limits causes a slight reduction in accuracy and resolution. The measurement range can be increased (without reduction in accuracy) when the reference capacitor is reduced in proportion to the increased range. PI capacitive position sensor electronics are provided with several reference capacitors (jumper selectable), a standard range 10 pF type and other values for reducing or extending the measuring range up to three times (Fig. 5.7/1).
