PI and PiezoMotor Uppsala Commonly Use Piezo Technology PiezoMotor Uppsala AB, Sweden, and Physik Instrumente (PI) GmbH & Co KG have agreed on a cross licensing of specific patents of each companies patent portfolio. Both parties expect to strengthen their establishment on the market by combining their complementing patents concerning piezo motor concepts.

"Together, we certainly cover the most applicable technologies for piezo motors", Dr. Karl Spanner, the CEO of PI, states and Per Oskar Lithell, the CEO of PiezoMotor Uppsala, adds "the goal is, to bring new piezo motor technologies to market that will change the world of micro motors". PI owns specific expertise in high-performance piezoelectric positioning for almost 40 years. This allows for offering nanometer-precision accuracy in combination with superior linearity and dynamics as well as for fast and compact piezo motor drive technology.

Founded in 1997, PiezoMotor Uppsala AB develops, manufactures and brings to market several types of piezoelectric motors. A number of technological platforms have been developed and successfully patented. Today, PiezoMotor Uppsala holds approximately 50 granted or pending patents. Piezoelectric motors are used in optical metrology, microscopy, semiconductor manufacturing and inspection, medical technology and automation.
