Motorized Precision Linear Actuators

Applications

Precision linear actuators position loads that are fastened at their end. Fastening is done application-dependent, for example by screwing, by means of magnetic couplings or by means of a preload. Thus, for example, in spring-preloaded stages, such as optical mirror mounts or positioning stages, manual micrometer screws can be replaced with linear actuators, thus automating the application.

These stages offer compact solutions for restricted installation space, for example in testing and inspection systems in industry and research. Their nonrotating tip for uniform motion prevents wobble, torque, and wear at the point of contact. Especially the actuators equipped with piezomotor are ideal for use as manipulators, for example in bio- and nanotechnology.

Piezo Linear Motors: First Integration Levels for OEM Applications

Applications range from sample handling in biotechnology to positioning of optical components in imaging processes. PI uses piezomotors as space-saving and high-resolution drive element in single- and multi-axis positioning systems. Integration ranges all the way to complex 6D Hexapods, which can also be used under extreme ambient conditions such as UHV or magnetic fields.
