Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) (EU) 2025/40 is the EU legal framework that establishes a harmonized set of rules for all packaging across the European Union. It must be applied as of August 12, 2026; and from this date onward, affected companies may only place compliant packaging or products packaged in compliance with the regulation on the EU market.
The objective of the PPWR is to reduce packaging waste, improve recycling rates, increase transparency, and ensure that packaging meets stringent sustainability and data requirements throughout the entire value chain.
As a producer of packaging and packaged products, PI is subject to the PPWR and will fulfill its obligations within the required timeframe.
As a manufacturer located in Germany, PI is duly registered and fulfills its reporting obligations under the PPWR. As of August 12, 2026, PI will implement and comply with the following requirements of the PPWR:
- Article 5 — Substance restrictions: The combined concentration of lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium (chromium VI) is limited to a maximum of 100 mg/kg. This restriction also applies to the presence of these substances in emissions from all materials and secondary raw materials generated during waste management (e.g., ash or other materials intended for disposal).
- Article 15 — Labeling requirements: We will provide the producer’s address in accordance with the PPWR on our delivery notes. At a later stage, the producer’s address, a QR code, and the packaging product number will also be printed on the packaging itself. Until then, all of our packaging will be identifiable with the packaging matrix available on this page.
